Group etiquette is of utmost importance. Please refrain from talking in numbers (calories, clothing sizes, weights) as well as discussing details of exercising, types of exercise equipment, length of time exercising, etc. Discussing food in a general way is not off-limits, but we discourage speaking about specific foods or describing food, especially in relation to binging or restricting. Please see the table below for suggestions on how to rephrase triggering topics. We may put an end to a discussion if the facilitator assesses that the topic is being discussed in an unhelpful manner.
Instead of saying:
“I went running for xxx minutes”
Rephrase to:
“I over-exercised”
Instead of saying:
“I binged and purged xxx times with xxx foods”
Rephrase to:
“I binged and purged last night”
Instead of saying:
“I am afraid to eat xxx because it has xxx calories”
Rephrase to:
“I’m still having a hard time with my fear foods”
